Eco Church 

We are a part of the A Rocha Eco Church movement and recently, all four of our churches have been awarded Eco Church Bronze award. 

We are conscious of the huge responsibility we have to maintain our buildings and grounds sustainably for the community and for the wider planet. After all, we are part of God's beautiful creation and we want to honour the giver of this wonderful gift. We are on a journey towards sustainable living, not only regarding our buildings and meetings, but as a whole church family. 

The Anglican Communion is committed to a five-fold mission, the fifth mark of which is "To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth." The Church of England has also committed itself to become Net Zero carbon by 2030. 

When you visit our churchyards, you will find we are managing them for safe access, for beauty and stillness, and also for nature. We plant and maintain the trees, shrubs and grasses/flowers in such a way as to promote biodiversity and minimise the use of synthetic chemicals. 

In our buildings, you will notice that we try to reduce our energy usage, limit the use of single-use plastics, and endeavour to serve food and drink in a way that is least damaging to the environment. 

And among our church members, we share ideas for sustainable living, and aim to find ways in which we can live more lightly on the earth from Monday to Saturday, not just on Sundays. 

Our Eco Group is made up of members from each of the churches, and we aim to guide the churches into more sustainable practices as well as considering how the environment can inform and deepen our faith in the Creator God, and how our faith can enrich the environment.
